Fords losses are mostly their own fault. They’ve marked down their cars below cost because they would sell ZERO of them if they didn’t. They know their losses and are obviously willing to accept them. They’re buying market share, literally. It’s the competition that’s killing Ford (tesla). That’s what happens when you’re 10 years behind.

I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss Baidu's robo taxis. It needs a cost comparison between Tesla and Baidu. I suspect Baidu will be more costly, even with its $28,000 car. However it needs analysis. It is no answer to say Tesla's system works everywhere. Sure Baidu is limited to specific cities, but that will be real competition in those locations if its costs are competitive.

ALL COUNTRIES FEDERAL AGENCIES SHOULD/WILL BUY/INVEST IN TESLAS - THE ECONOMICS ALONE will show that is the way, but add, CONVENIENCE, SAFETY, environmental and "fun factors" : ) and it is a NO-BRAINER that ALL will go with.

Lars, all the minutia about Ford and GM and ALL ice, the LONG AND THE SHORT: THEY WILL ALL GO AWAY!! It is that easy: WRIGHT's LAW DICTATES THIS. All the plub-in hybrid and all BS is just working until Tesla, Chinese and South Koreans (unless they turn into China now) scales production - then it is GAME OVER. WRIGHT'S LAW should be EXPLAINED since most are CLUELESS ON IT.

Optimus will enter production for internal use late this year, and enter volume production for external sales in 2025. Tesla has to be constructing the buildings and infrastructure for that production now. What are the Giga-Texas South Extension (SE) , new End Of Line (EOL) building, and The Boring Company (TBC) tunnel between them for? Perhaps Optimus production (SE) and Inventory/Programming/Shipping (EOL) and a protected and secure route for Optimi to walk themselves from SE to EOL. Tesla has already moved new vehicle staging from the east side to the west side, they obviously don't need an expensive tunnel to do it. The best part is no part. Why is the new EOL building so large, all on one floor, and with those loading docks at each end? Why is Tesla laying concrete pipe under the trailer parking lot south of the EOL building? They always use galvanized steel corrugated pipes under parking lots and roads. They've only used concrete under buildings. Before they started foundations for the new SE building, they dug up all the corrugated pipes and replaced them with concrete pipes. They have finished the steelwork on the SE, yet there is still a large quantity of structural steel staged north of the EOL building. It appears a building will be built at (or over) the west end of the tunnel. There is an extremely logical explanation if you include Optimus robot production in the equation. Recent videos from Tesla and others (Sandy Munro, Farzad Mesbahi, Randy Kirk, etc.) have indicated Optimus will be used soon, if not already, on the Tesla production line(s) for beta testing purposes. After a very finite testing period, they will enter production, most likely in the main factory building at Giga Texas, it seems likely that's what the South Extension is for. "The part furthest from the glass" is for major water-cooled compute to be installed, according to permits Joe Tegtmeyer located. Hmmm! Compute for FSD training for all current models is already in place and in use and Tesla is "no longer compute constrained." What upcoming product needs this enormous new capacity? Optimi will be filling LOTS of different roles in different settings, so they will need lots of different neural network instances and many different sets of millions of different videos to be trained on. That additional compute capability is further confirmation that the SE is for Optimus production. As for the tunnel, since they will weigh less than 130-140 pounds each, they would be subject to theft, plus they shouldn't be out in the weather before sale and delivery. Space in the main factory building is at a premium, especially for something as mundane as finished goods inventory, plus traffic is bad enough at the factory without adding shipping thousands of Optimus robots from one side of the highway to the other. Solution: build a tunnel from the production building to the new EOL inventory and shipping building. Build the first TBC tunnel with one end inside the Gigafactory at the end of the Optimus production line and the other end in the new Optimus Inventory/Shipping (OI/S) building. Manufacture Optimus robots in the factory. When assembly (with partially charged cells) and initial programming are done, they walk themselves through the Boring Company tunnel over to the OI/S building for final checkout, complete charging, and being inventoried. After they are sold, they are taken out of inventory, OTA updated with the neural net version appropriate for their future use(es), and loaded into semis for shipping, all inside the OI/S building. All unaffected by weather, secure, and safe, 24 hours a day. The big new west parking lot and large number of Superchargers are for further Model Y and Cybertruck production ramping and Model 2 production capacity as well as. We will know more if the east end of the tunnel comes up inside the new south extension building. Since the west end is in the open, south of the new EOL building, other possibilities are another building constructed over the west tunnel entrance after the tunnel is bored, or a secure, covered walkway is built from the west tunnel entrance to the EOL building. The timing seems about right for Optimus production. If Optimus production grows exponentially and exceeds the tunnel capacity, they could build another parallel tunnel right next to the first one. When the 7-story parking garage goes into use, that will free up a large area of current parking lot land for additional factory buildings. If one or more are for additional Optimus production lines, more tunnels could be constructed from them as well.

Lars, I think you missed something in your reporting on the Jeep. You said it was 1.1 seconds faster. At least that’s what it sounded like you said. You also didn’t mention that in the fine print the ad said something about ‘after subtracting rollout.’ You need to explain what that means, but I’ll guarantee my MYP could beat that tank in a true zero to sixty race.

Disco music. Boy it came in with promise. Clubs went up all over the place. Work all week and on Friday nights go to the discotheques. You heard it playing everywhere on the radio, tv commercials, even as themes for movies and sitcoms. Yep, it was the king of the hill. What everyone didn't realize is disco was a trend. Trends come and go. They come in hard and fast and there's lots of money to be made and spent. Then one day you wake up and and ask, "Hey, remember that?" Today disco is called retro, the same beat just a different name. But most forgot about disco after the trend long since died out. So Tesla, especially with no real improvements in the works, with no plans to decrease charging times and increase range, you go right on ahead and enjoy the top of that hill. While your up there look down beneath your feet. Do you see those faint foot prints? That's right, Disco was there!!! Along with many other trends. Now look down the hill. Do you see all the other new trends coming for you to push you over? You're already beginning to loose footing. In some parts of the world, you already laid off workers and began to shave your work force. Here in the north east of USA you don't see the construction of chargers going up anymore. I used to see teslas everywhere and now here and there and other makes are rare anymore. Tesla, if you wish to keep that trend around awhile and stay on that hill, improve the EV. If you came out with an EV that fully charges in the same amount of time it takes to top one off, and improve range to atleast 500 miles and for guys like me, a large full size luxury automobile, you just might keep that hill a little longer. Otherwise like rock n roll, what's here to stay, is here to stay......

On the issue of context, here’s some further information that is relevant: - Europe BEV sales were up 14% in April, whilst Tesla sales were down 2.3%, most notably in Germany (which is Tesla’s biggest European market) where sales were down 32% in April whilst the German market was flat in total sales. - UK sales down 14% in first four months of 2024 - The direction of travel is not slowing sales but decreasing sales; that’s problematic for a company priced as a growth company with sizeable capex and an aging fleet of cars. - FSD safety stats are questionable, with NHSTA investigating a number of issues with both FSD (now called FSD supervised, to signify that driver has to remain in charge at all times) and autopilot -Recycling of battery materials is not easy, and extraction is very resource intensive, with considerable child labour in the developing World, but hey it’s only the kids of poor people. @27:05 - What is Tesla doing about the Acid Rain effect on the CyberTruck? The CyberTruck presently rusts in the Acid Rain up north (or probably where ever there is any kind of industrialization. A chemist friend of mine said you could get a clear coat put onto your CyberTruck that would stop that. Elon Musk is askng $5,000 to do it but my friend said the usual price is only around $300.

Dont care who wins the race for the best selling EV. The environment wins either way.

The real question is why should automakers bother selling BEVs at a loss just to please EU regulators? EU emission targets will most likely be pushed out because European automakers have realized they cannot meet them either.

Toyota and Hino's Semi-Truck is FCV, meaning Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vehicle. It's the same technology used in their MIRAI. Toyota already has a few of them in Port of Los Angeles. You can also find them in public buses in Japan.

Apparently Tesla will start producing a lower priced EV using spare capacity from existing plants. We may see that within the next 12 months. Let's assume Tesla can reduce their costs enough to sell a decent size, decent range EV for about. $35k starting price. With the federal subsidy that makes to cost to buyer less than $30k. That would open up a vast new market segment, the Camry/Accord market. Do that and there's really no reason to produce a "$25k" EV if FSD is close to completion.

On the battery degradation, the average seems around 85% but 1 standard divination is 5% which means that around 2.5% of teslas or 1 out of 40 will have a degradation below 75% Also it is likely that the standard deviation pattern does not have a symmetrical normal gausian spread so the number can be a lot worse than that.

Your a bit biased towards the autopilot safety results. Autopilot can only be used on motorways. Crashes on motorways are rare compared to city street accidents. So you can NOT compare the US average of all driving to Autopilot. Motorway accidents are around 6 times lower than city driving. Also you need to consider that young drivers that just passed their exame and likely cause the most accidents do not drive a newish car but an older car so not a tesla. Last but not least a bit in line with my previous comment, the US average includes a shitload of old cars which often have bad suspensions and other deteriorating parts which cause more accidents. Anyway, I hope FSD on all roads will show 100x better than US average otherwise it is unlikely to become usefull for the robotaxi plan

In my opinion, no one‘s taking over Tesla. Simply for one reason. Where are there charging stations at. Think about it to compete with Tesla you gotta build your own charging stations. That’s just the truth. I don’t see Volkswagen doing it BMW doing Volvo doing it Mercedes doing it Audi doing it Fiat doing it.
